Stand alone reader is a card reader that is equipped with an internal controller so that it can be used as an electronic key. Most of the standalone readers are RFID readers which are used to read various types of proximity cards such as HID, EM, and Wiegand. In order to function as a standalone electronic lock, the reader must be equipped with an electric lock.
